Driffield Methodist Church

The mural in the Middle Street North car park is now complete:

                            Mural

It depicts the Wolds, Riverhead, the Wolds Way, farming and the historical connection the area has with the services. It certainly brightens up a dull gable end.

"What is distinctive about Methodism?"

One of the identified features is the grassroots movement, the lay people that play a major part in the running of the church. Click on the picture to follow the link, and understand more about this characteristic of Methodism.

"The Methodist Church has set an aspirational target of becoming a net zero carbon emissions church by 2030. Many districts, circuits and churches have already begun to work towards net zero goals, an Eco District award, or other aims in caring for creation."

This is an introduction from the Methodist Church website, Action for Hope. It heralds a significant change in approach to fulfilling the Annual Return which is done on your behalf by the Property Steward. The old questions will still be asked but not on line. They will be replaced by targeting net zero in our church and activities. More details to follow but go the the "Eco Church" tab to read more.

One of our missions is to reduce loneliness and provide fellowship to those that either live alone or who are in care homes. Could you assist by bringing people to services, lunch club, and other events? If you are coming anyway, would it be much to ask? Please use the contact form to offer your services.

Thank you

The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion

The relationship between science and religion is fascinating, and fundamental to faith. The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion is dedicated to researching and understanding this. There is a wealth of interesting information (follow this link to an external website) and resources to consider. It is good to see the involvement of other Methodist Churches.

The Four aims of Methodists

Methodism's activities, both alone and with ecumenical and secular partners, are based on four aims known as Our Calling:

· To increase awareness of God's presence and to celebrate God's love
·
To help people to grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care
·
To be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice
·
To make more followers of Jesus Christ.

"Property plays a significant role in enabling a presence within communities. A Methodist building that is welcoming, eye-catching and that acts as a focal point for community engagement can speak powerfully of God’s love.  Utilising a property either by redeveloping it for social purpose or incorporating a range of social uses into an existing building is as much a part of a mission plan as preaching, worship or community evangelism."
